The PenFed Foundation is a nonprofit national charity working to meet the unmet needs of the military personnel and their families in the areas of financial literacy, housing and support for the wounded. We seek to prevent medical emergencies turning into financial hardships for our nation’s defenders.

In 2007, Army Sergeant Dwayne Cole was shot in his neck while on base in Iraq. Living with paralysis from the chest down, Sgt. Cole is fighting like the soldier he is.
Over the course of the past year, Sgt. Cole has had four power outages at his Virginia home built by Homes for our Troops. This is not the most ideal situation for anyone, but Sgt. Cole was put in fatal circumstances. Because his house is completely electrical, no power posed life threatening conditions for Sgt. Cole as he depends on electricity for care of his injury.
